Betsy Layne Lady Cats Defeat East Ridge

The Betsy Layne Lady Cats traveled down US 460 to take on the Lady Warriors of East Ridge. Besty Layne entered the contest with an 0-4 record playing their 5th road game to start the season. East Ridge entered the contest with a 1-4 record on the season after picking up their first victory on Friday against Hurley, Va.

The Lady Cats entered the contest with two starters out as illness had hit the team. Junior Haleigh Damron stepped up to fill the void.

Damron who transferred from East Ridge to Betsy Layne prior to the 2021/2022 season had an unbelievable homecoming. Damron had a team high 26 points on the evening to lead the Lady Cats to victory 66-53. Damron also added 6 rebounds and 5 assists to her already impressive stat line. Damron was one of four Lady Cats in double figures. Jayden Jarrell chipped in 14 points while Jaden Pente added 12 and Laci Hall finished with 11.

The win was the first for Betsy Layne on the season and the first for Head Coach Kory Thacker at the high school level. The Lady Cats look to carry the moment as they are at home on Thursday to take on Pike County Central and on Friday against Floyd Central. The Floyd Central/Besty Layne Game can be seen on the D&D Sport Network.

The loss drops the Lady Warriors to 1-5 on the season. The Lady Warriors will play host to the Shelby Valley Lady Cats in a crucial 59th District matchup on Thursday.
