Tug Valley, Pikeville, Greenup County Win State Cheerleading Championships

Tug Valley, Pikeville and Greenup County won their respective State Cheer Championships on Saturday.

Tug Valley won its fifth title in six years and ninth overall. Tug Valley’s current run of cheer success in Class A was only broken up in 2020 when the school was not allowed to compete due to COVID cases.

Pikeville won its fourth title in six seasons on Saturday in Kentucky’s All-Girls Small School Competitive Cheer Division. Pikeville has set itself up as the dynasty in that division. Russell finished second in the division behind Pikeville.

Greenup County took the top spot in Kentucky’s All-Girls Medium School Competitive Cheer Division ivision. Greenup County last won the title in in the 2014-15 competition.

Rowan County, Pike County Central and Belfry also had strong showings. Rowan County placed second in the game day small school division. Pike County Central was fourth in the All-Girls Large Division. Belfry placed fourth in the Game Day Large Division.
