The Wayne Pioneers started out the season with a home win over Wahama, 75-56, on Tuesday.
The Pioneers (1-0) jumped out out of the gate quickly, leading 19-9 after the first period of play. Wayne took a 35-27 lead into the locker room at the half. The Pioneers kept extending their lead in the second half and pulled away for the win.
Wayne was led by Zane Adkins’ 21 points. Isaac Meddings followed with 20 points. Isaiah Lowe dropped in 11 points. Peyton Marcum had 9 points. Ronnie Staley added 8 points and dished out 10 assists. Dillon May chipped in 4 points. Cooper Adkins finished with 2 points.
Wayne will hit the road on Saturday with a game against Liberty-Harrison. The opening tip is set for 4 pm.
