The Pikeville Panthers opened up their season with an 84-63 win over the Letcher County Central Cougars on Monday in Pikeville.
The Panthers (1-0) jumped out to a 25-11 advantage in the first quarter and never looked back.
Rylee Samons led Pikeville with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Eli Johnson added 16 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists. Charlie Fitzer had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 11 blocks. Josh Hughes had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Heath Jarrell had 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Ian Onkst added 6 points. Braden Bowling chipped in 2 points.
Pikeville shot 31-of-52 overall for 60%. The Panthers connected on 7-of-15 3-point field goals for 47%.
Letcher County Central (0-1) was led by Kaden Adams’ 15 points. Jayden Huff had 14 points. Brady Bogs netted 13 points. Peyton Wright added 5 points. Avantae Higgins, Peyton Dixon and Nigel Nicholls added 4 points apiece. Toj Higgins finished with 3 points. Jason McCool chipped in 1 point in the contest.
Pikeville will next host Calvary Baptist Academy on Thursday. The opening tip is set for 7:30 pm.
The Cougars will host Lee, Va. on Thursday. The opening tip is also set for 7:30 pm.
