Shelby Valley Runs Past Middlesboro

On Friday night the Shelby Valley Wildcats played host to the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets in a crucial 2A matchup. The winner would earn a birth in the Regional championship game next weekend.

When you think of Shelby Valley’s offense the air raid passing attack and Russ Osborne quickly comes to mind. In this game it was senior running back, Jayden Newsome who was the star. Newsome carried the football 31 times for 237 yards and 2 touchdowns including the game winner. Osborne also helped with the ground game as he carried the football 17 times for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. Osborne only attempted 12 passes on the night. He completed 50% of those attempts for 67 yards.

The Middlesboro offense was led by quarterback Cayden Grigsby. Grigsby was 13-23 for 195 yards through the air with 1 touchdown. Grigsby was also the Yellowjackets leading rushers. He carried the football for 14 carries and 87 yards and 2 touchdowns,

In the end the Wildcats would hold on in a thriller 28-21. The win allows the Wildcats, (10-2) to move to the regional championship game against 2A favorite Beechwood next Friday.

The loss drops Middlesboro to 7-4 on the season.
