Musketeers Defeat Bulldogs for the Second Time this Season

Greenup County traveled to Louisa on Friday to take on Lawrence County. The game was a rematch of the third game of the season that saw the Musketeers defeat the Bulldogs 17-14. The winner of this one would earn a spot in the Regional Championship game.

On a rain soaked field, the Musketeers jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Ike Henderson scored early in the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, Greenup County’s Tyson Sammons scored to push the Musketeers lead to 14-0. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Lawrence County’s Cody Crum scored to make it 14-7 Greenup County at the half.

In the second half, the score remained the same until Tyson Sammons scored with 2:35 left in the game to give the Musketeers a 2 touchdown advantage. On the kickoff, the Bulldogs fumbled and on the following drive Henderson scored his second touchdown of the night to make if 28-7.

The Bulldogs struggled to get their rushing attack on track. The Bulldogs came into the game averaging 262 yards on the ground. On Friday, the Musketeers held Lawrence County to 161 yards on the ground, 101 yards below their average.

Greenup County Quarterback, Tyson Sammons controlled the game. He rushed 19 times for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sammons was also perfect through the air. He completed 7 out of 7 passes for 70 yards. Ike Henderson, also was a major contributor for the Musketeers. He carried the ball 16 times for 75 yards on the night with 2 touchdowns.

The win moves Greenup County’s record to 8-4 on the season. The Musketeers will will travel to Mason County to take on the Royals in the regional championship game next Friday.

The loss finishes Lawrence County’s season with a record of 9-3.
