On Friday, the Belfry Pirates traveled to Putnam Stadium in Ashland to take on the Tomcats. The defending 3A State Champions had bad memories of Putnam Stadium as the were eliminated from the 2020 playoffs at the hands of the Tomcats. On Friday, turnovers played a deciding factor in this one. Belfry fumbled 6 times and threw 1 interception as Ashland rolled to a 48-7 victory.
Ashland had a balanced offensive attack. Ashland Quarterback LaBryant Strader complete 6-8 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Strader’s favorite target was Brandon Houston. Houston caught 3 passes for 68 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Ashland rushing attack was led by Braxton Jennings. Jennings carried the football for 11 carries and 65 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback LaBryant Strader carried the football 11 carries for 54 yards and 1 touchdown.
Defensively for the Tomcats, Isiaiah Ingram led the team with 14 tackles, 8 of which were solo. Landon Eden also had 10 tackles, 6 solo and 1 tackle for loss. The Tomcat defense held Belfry to 170 yards rushing and 48 yards passing.
The win brings Ashland’s record to 8-4 on the season. The Tomcats will travel to Bell County (10-2) to take on the Dudley Hilton and the Bell County Bobcats on Friday.
The loss ends Belfry’s season with an 6-6 record.
