Chapmanville’s Season Ends At Fairmont Senior

The Chapmanville Tigers’ remarkable season came to an end on the roach at the hands of defending state champions Fairmont Senior on Friday, 42-20.

The Polar Bears (8-3) scored the game’s first 12 points before the Tigers (7-4) recovered a fumble and capitalized on a 3-yard Brody Dalton touchdown run. The John Ferrell PAT kick to make it 12-7 after 1 quarter.

Chapmanville struggled in the second quarter. Turnovers and big plays led to a 28-7 Fairmont Senior lead at the half.

Most of the third quarter was scoreless until Dalton connected with Adam Mullins from 35 yards out to make it a 28-13 Fairmont Senior lead heading into the fourth quarter. That would be as close as the Tigers would get, however.

The Polar Bears scored 14-consecutive points, including a 51-yard interception return by Damani Johnson to make it a 42-13 score. A late touchdown from Jeremy Collins made it a 42-20 final.

Dalton completed 14-of-24 passes for 137 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. He also had 77 yards and 1 touchdown on 21 carries in the loss.
