Belfry Travels To Ashland In Second Round Showdown

The Belfry Pirates roll into Ashland on Friday for a huge clash with the home standing Ashland Tomcats in the second round of the KHSAA 3A football playoffs.

The Pirates (6-5) advanced to to the second round of the playoffs by defeating the Russell Red Devils, 56-14, in the opening round.

Caden Woolum had 16 carries for 313 yards and 5 touchdowns in that outing to lead Belfry. Cayden Varney and Blake Hurley each had interception returns for touchdowns.

Ashland (7-4) defeated the Magoffin County Hornets, 49-6, last week.

LaBryant Strader completed 4-of-5 passes for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. Nine different players combined for 210 yards and 4 touchdowns, led by Atayveon Thomas with 77 yards and 1 touchdown on 3 carries.

These two teams have a bit of a history in the playoffs. Ashland defeated Belfry, 10-3, two years ago to eliminate the Pirates.

The opening kick is set for Friday at 7:30 pm in Ashland.
