Belfry Runs Past Russell In Opening Round

The Belfry Pirates racked up 505 yards of offense as they blew past the Russell Red Devils, 56-14, on Friday night in the first round of the 3A KHSAA football playoffs at Belfry.

Caden Woolum led the Belfry (6-5) offense with 16 carries for 313 yards and 5 touchdowns. Braxton Hatfield had 45 yards on 7 carries. Ace Caudill had 3 carries for 37 yards and 1 touchdown. Neal Copley added 2 carries for 33 yards. Jeremiah Austin finished with 7 carries for 29 yards.

Chase Varney was 2-of-6 passing for the Pirates for 45 yards. He also had 3 yards on 2 rushing attempts.

Aidan Burke had 1 reception for 23 yards. Caudill added a 22 yard reception as well.

Defensively, Copley and Brayden Spears added 11 tackles. Cayden Varney and Black Hurley each had interception returns for touchdowns.

For Russell (2-9), Ethan Pack completed 9-of-23 passes for 123 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.

Patrick Carson was Russell’s top receiver with 5 catches for 70 yards and 1 touchdown. Noah McDaniels added 3 catches for 45 yards.

Colby Rock had a rushing touchdown for the Red Devils.

Belfry will play in the second round on Friday at Ashland (7-4). The opening kick is set for 7:30 pm.
