Wayne Loses At Poca In Season Finale

The Wayne Pioneers lost their final game of the season, 18-13, against the Poca Dots on Friday in Poca.

The Pioneers (4-6) got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when Ronnie Staley III scored on a 5-yard touchdown run. Kade Estep’s PAT kick made the score 7-0.

Poca (2-8) closed the gap in the second quarter on a Jordan Wolfe 1-yard touchdown run to make the score 7-6 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Dots took the lead in the fourth period on a 13-yard pass from Wolfe to Preston Bonnett and a 12-7 Poca lead.

Wayne retook the lead on a 42-yard run from Braylon Gilliam to make the score 13-12.

Poca scored its winning touchdown when Wolfe found Andrew Young for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

For the Pioneers, Fisher Fry completed 3-of-5 passes for 58 yards. Fry also added 20 yards on 4 carries. Joshua Dingess was 3-of-4 for 12 yards. He also had 8 carries for 24 yards.

Jaxson Damron led the Wayne offense with 19 carries for 99 yards. Gilliam had 8 carries for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. Staley added 7 carries for 44 yards and 1 touchdown. Rylen Murdock had 6 carries for 43 yards and 71 yards on 4 receptions. Colton Mathis finished with 8 yards on 3 carries.
