In the opening night of the 15th Region Volleyball tournament, the Shelby Valley Wildcats, winners of the 59th District, took on the Johnson Central Golden Eagles, runner up of the 57th district. Shelby Valley entered the matchup with a 23-5 record after winning their ;last 6 contests. The Golden Eagles entered the contest with a record of 20-15.
The Golden Eagles made quick work of the Wildcats win the match 3 sets to 0, (25-17,25-13,25-23). The win will advance Johnson Central “Final 4” where they would await the winner of the second game of the night, Floyd Central vs. Belfry.
In the nightcap, the Belfry Lady Pirates, winners of the 60th District faced off against the Floyd Central Lady Jags, runner up in the 58th District. The Lady Jags jumped early on the Lady Pirates and never looked back as they won the match in 3 sets, (25-18,25-10, 25-12).
The Lady Jags were led by Junior Jayden Hall. Hall led the Lady Jags with 13 Kills on the evening. On the inside Emma Bailey played an outstanding game with 7 kills and 5 blocks. It was the unsung hero of the night, Taylor Hamilton who led the way with 35 assists on the evening.
With the win the 1st semifinal matchup is set as for Oct 26th at 6:00 PM as Johnson Central will take on Floyd Central.
