The Scott Skyhawks have been on a roll this season and find themselves still atop the WVSSAC Class AA Football Rankings released on Tuesday.
Scott (8-0) is coming off a 49-28 win over Poca (1-7) and will now travel to face 5th-ranked Winfield (7-1). A Skyhawk victory would put them in prime position for the top seed in the playoffs.
The Chapmanville Tigers (5-3) are 13th after a gigantic win over county rival Logan (6-3), 49-7. The Tigers next take on the Mingo Central Miners (3-5) on Miner Mountain. Chapmanville has an inside track to the playoffs with a win.
The Logan Wildcats are 14th in the rankings after stumbling at Chapmanville. The Wildcats are off this week but have a huge game the following week by hosting 11th-ranked Herbert Hoover (5-2).
The Wayne Pioneers (4-5) are 21st this week. The playoffs don’t appear to be in Wayne’s future. The Pioneers have a bye week before traveling to Poca for the last week of the season.
The Mingo Central Miners fell at Herbert Hover, 55-3, on Friday and are ranked 25th. The Miners will now welcome Chapmanville on Friday.
The Westside Renegades (2-6) lost at Tug Valley , 49-12, on Friday and find themselves ranked 29th. Westside now hosts Mount View (3-5) on Friday.
The top 16 teams in each classification at season’s end qualify for the WVSSAC State Football Championship Tournament.
