At the age of 13, Michael Hopson decided to enter the world of powerlifting. Now, the 16-year-old Hopson is leaving his mark on the sport with 24 combined records.
Hopson, a junior at Man High School, had his first meet on June 12, 2021 in Morgantown and set his first set of state records on the way to placing first in his division. Then, on June 26, 2022 Hopson broke four national records and 8 state records. He competed in his third meet on October 15, 2022 and set four state and four national records.
Hopson holds four records in the non-tested United States Powerlifting Association 13-15 age group 275 lbs class. He holds 12 records in the tested and non-tested United States Powerlifting Association 13-15 age group 308 lbs class. And he now holds eight records in the Natural Athlete Strength Association 308 lbs high school age class.
Hopson competes in football, soccer and wrestling as well. With him being so young, it looks like the best is yet to come for him.
