The top-ranked Scott Skyhawks fought off the 6th-ranked Logan Wildcats in a huge showdown in West Madison on Friday.
The Skyhawks (7-0) were anchored by the Preston Cooper’s workhorse performance on the ground. Cooper carried the ball 45 times for 212 yards and scored all 4 of Scott’s touchdowns. Carson Brinegar added 54 yards on 5 carries.
Quarterback Matt Frye was 12-of-21 passing for 151 yards. He also had 3 carries for 4 yards.
Brayden Clark led the Scott receivers with 3 receptions for 47 yards. Brinegar had 5 catches for 41 yards. Isaiah Bush added 1 catch for 35 yards. Keaton Wheatley had 13 yards on 1 reception. Jayden Sharps finished with 1 reception for 12 yards. Cooper had a catch for 3 yards.
Logan (5-2) was playing without starting quarterback Jaxon Cogar. However, back up quarterback Drew Berry gave a valiant effort in defeat.
Berry completed 22-of-32 passes for 226 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also had 1 carry for 3 yards.
Berry’s favorite target on the night was Aiden Slack. Slack caught 8 passes for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. Garrett Williamson had 7 catches for 63 yards. Julius Clancy added 4 receptions for 42 yards. Gabe Workman finished with 3 catches for 17 yards.
Workman also had 9 carries for 53 yards and 1 touchdown.
Scott now has a week off before welcoming Poca (1-6) to West Madison the following Friday.
Logan will stay on the road next week, traveling to Liberty-Raleigh (1-5). The opening kickoff is set for 7 pm in Glen Daniel.
