The Prestonsburg Blackcats advance to the 15th region soccer tournament after taking down Lawrence County 10-0.
Coming into the match, Prestonsburg’s record was 15-1-1; their only loss coming from Walton-Verona in the All-A Classic State Tournament with the game ending in a shootout. They tied with East Carter earlier in the season.
Sophomore Sophie Stephens led the way scoring a haul, or 4 goals. Sophomore Emily Burchett scored 2 goals and had an assist. Emily is leading the state in assists with 31 on the season. Freshman Jade Fitzpatrick had 1 goal and an assist. Kentucky Youth Soccer 2022 Girls Player of the Year, Anna Burchett, scored a hat trick and had 3 assists for her team. Burchett is leading the state in goals scored with 72 this season. She also became the all-time leading scorer for girls in KHSAA history earlier this season. Anna has 268 goals in her high school career and counting.
Prestonsburg has outscored their opponents 142 to 19 this season. They head into the 15th Region tournament with a record of 12-0 in the region.
