Wayne Falls At Herbert Hoover

The Wayne Pioneers fell on the road to the 12th-ranked Herbert Hoover Huskies, 40-12, on Friday.

Herbert Hoover (4-2) jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on touchdown runs of 49 and 5 yards from Rocco Frye. The Huskies increased their lead to 19-0 in the second quarter on 4-yard run from Frye before Wayne (3-4) was able to climb back into the game.

Jaxson Damron added 2 touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards for the Pioneers to make it a 19-12 score. The Huskies responded before the end of the half when Dane Hatfield scored on a 14-yard run to make it 26-12 at the half.

Hatfield threw two long TD passes in the second half to put the Pioneers away.

Joshua Dingess was 7-of-14 passing for 57 yards and 1 interception.

Damron had 20 carries for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns. Braylon Gilliam recorded 14 yards on 5 carries. Rylen Murdock had 5 carries for 5 yards. Colton Mathis finished with 1 carry for 1 yard.

Waylon Forrest led Wayne in receiving with 18 yards on 1 reception. Zane Adkins had 2 catches for 17 yards. Gilliam had 2 catches for 13 yards. Murdock finished with 9 yards on 2 receptions.

Wayne now returns home for a big match up with the Chapmanville Tigers (3-3) on Friday. The opening kick is set for 7 pm.
