The Wayne Pioneers have a bit of momentum after two huge wins heading into their showdown at Herbert Hoover on Friday.
Wayne (3-3) is coming off a 28-6 win over Lincoln County and finds itself 20th in the latest Class AA rankings.
Jaxson Damron will lead the Pioneer offense. So far this season, Damron has 88 carries for 533 yards and 10 touchdowns. Braylon Gilliam has 207 yards and 1 touchdown on 45 carries.
Much of Wayne’s success could come down to its quarterback play. Starter Grady Spradlin has missed the last two games due to injury. If he can’t play, Josh Dingess will take over the duties. So far this season, Spradlin is 30-of-41 passing for 304 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Dingess is 8-of-13 passing for 128 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Rylen Murdock leads the Wayne receivers with 240 yards and 3 touchdowns on 16 receptions.
Currently ranked 12th, Herbert Hoover (3-2) is coming off a road win at Chapmanville, 42-33. Herbert Hoover is led by Dane Hatfield.
Hatfield had three touchdown runs and threw a touchdown pass in the win over the Tigers.
A win for Wayne would put it right in the mix of the playoff chase while a Herbert Hoover victory would solidify the Huskies’ ranking.
The opening kick is set for 7 pm.
