The Harlan County Bears (3-4) visited the the Cougars of Letcher County Central (5-2) last Friday and left with a 45-6 loss.
Cougar quarterback Jonah Little completed 11-of-18 passes for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 13 times for 111 yards.
It was a good night for LCCs offense. Keaston Branham caught the ball twice for 68 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. Peyton Combs had 1 reception for 29 yards. Koby Johnson also had 1 catch for 27 yards. Gavin Brown added 27 yards on 4 catches. Quinton Williams, Brett Smith, and Hayden Trusty all had 1 catch each for a total of 26 yards.
The Cougars rushing game was just too much for the Black Bears. Following Jonah Little, junior Isaac Matthews carried the ball 10 times for 35 yards and ran in 1 touchdown. Koby Johnson had 19 yards on 3 carries. Keynote Miller added 14 yards on 3 carries and Peyton Combs carried the ball twice for 5 yards.
Kicker Connor Bowling went 1 for 2 PATs
Letcher County Central’s defense finished the game with a team total of 62 tackles. Koby Johnson had 8, Dawson Cornett had 7, Keaton Day and Gavin Brown both had 6.
Brett Smith and Keaston Branham had an interception each for the Cougars.
Letcher County Central plays at home versus Clay County on Oct. 7.
Harlan County is on a bye next week but is back in action at home against Johnson Central on Oct. 14.
