The Logan Wildcats scored early and then held on to defeat the visiting Nitro Wildcats, 17-6, in a homecoming victory.
Logan (5-1) jumped on top early as quarterback Jaxon Cogar had two first quarter touchdown passes to Aiden Slack and Garrett Williamson, respectively. Logan held a 14-0 lead after the opening frame.
Logan added to its lead in the second quarter on a Slack field goal to push the lead to 17-0 at the half. Logan would fail to score in the second half, however.
Nitro (2-4) got its lone score in the fourth quarter on a Mikey Toscano touchdown run to make the final margin 17-6.
Cogar completed 15-of-22 passes for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. Drew Berry also connected on 1-of-7 passes for 16 yards.
Cogar also led Logan in rushing with 18 yards on 4 attempts. Slack finished with 16 yards on 6 attempts. Julius Clancy had 13 yards on 1 carry. Conner Mullens added 1 carry for 9 yards. Gabe Workman had 8 yards on 2 carries. Berry had 1 rushing attempt for 4 yards.
Defensively, Ryan Roberts led Logan with 13 tackles, including 4 tackles for a loss. Bryce Davis also added 9 tackles in the win.
Logan finds itself ranked 6th in the latest WVSSAC Class AA Football Rankings and will travel to West Madison for a class with the new top-ranked team in Class AA, the Scott Skyhawks (6-0). The opening kick is set for 7:30 pm.
