Matt Frye threw 5 touchdown passes to lead the Scott Skyhawks to a road win at Mingo Central, 34-6, on Friday.
Mingo Central (1-4) jumped on the scoreboard first when Chris Ross found Deucy Porter in the end zone for a touchdown pass.
Scott (6-0) responded near the end of the first half on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Frye to Carson Brinegar to take a 7-6 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Skyhawks started the second half strong. After a defensive stop, Frye and Brinegar connected again for a 53-yard scoring strike to make it 14-6 with 8:00 left in the third period. A few minutes later, Frye hit Jayden Sharps for a 47-yard touchdown pass to increase the Scott lead to 21-6. The Skyhawks added one last score in the period when Frye hit Isaiah Bush for a 8-yard touchdown pass.
Frye connected with Brayden Clark on a long pass for the final touchdown of the game.
Frye completed 21-of-35 passes for 324 yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 intereception. He also carried the ball 6 times for 23 yards.
Preston Cooper finished with 60 yards on 11 carries. Brinegar had 3 rushing attempts for 30 yards.
Brinegar also had 6 receptions for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sharps had 111 yards and 1 touchdown on 8 catches. Clark had 3 catches for 67 yards and 1 touchdown. Bush had 1 catch for 8 yards and 1 touchdown. Cooper finished with 4 yards on 3 catches.
Scott will next welcome the Logan Wildcats (5-1) to West Madison for its homecoming game in a huge class that will have major implications on the Class AA rankings. The opening kick is set for 7:30 pm.
Mingo Central now travels to Tolsia (0-5) for a game with the Rebels. The kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
