The Golden Eagles of Johnson Central scored eight rushing touchdowns in a win over the Tigers of Clay County, 56-20, on Friday in Manchester.
Although Clay County won the passing game with quarterback Tate Rice throwing 16 completions for 177 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns, the Golden Eagles took the game running with 528 total rushing yards.
For Johnson Central, Zack McCoart led the team on the ground with 192 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 13 attempts. Chase Price carried the ball for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 attempts. Mason Lawson added 137 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns on 14 attempts. Jacob Grimm had 1 rushing touchdown. Kicker Sawyer Crum went 100% for 8 PATs.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles had 49 total team tackles. Chandler Spradlin and Logan Castle both had 6 tackles a piece. Logan Music and Chase Price each had 5 tackles. Jesse McCoy, Dalton Matney, and Seth Davis added 4 tackles each.
Johnson Central (4-2) will take on Perry Central at home on Oct.
Clay County (4-2) will travel to Letcher County Central on Oct. 7.
