The Scott Skyhawks rose to 2nd after a big week to lead area teams in the WVSSAC Class AA Football Rankings.
The Skyhawks (5-0) beat Chapmanville, 39-19, last week in West Madison and only trails North Marion in the rankings. Scott will next battle Mingo Central (1-3) on the road this Friday at 7:30 pm. The Miners find themselves ranked 26th this week after a loss at Poca, 41-7.
The Logan Wildcats (4-1) find themselves ranked 9th after falling at 6th-ranked Winfield (4-1), 29-7. Logan returns home on Friday to take on Nitro (2-3) at 7 pm.
The Chapmanville Tigers (3-2) are 14th after their loss at Scott. The Tigers return back home to battle 17th-ranked Herbert Hoover on Friday in a very important match up for both teams. The opening kick is set for 7 pm.
The Wayne Pioneers (2-3) began to work themselves back into conversation for the playoffs with a 36-17 win at Nitro. This week, the Pioneers will face visiting Class AAA Lincoln County in a game that could provide solid points for next week’s rankings. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
The Westside Renegades (1-4) find themselves ranked 31st after a loss to 3rd-ranked Independence, 62-0. Westside next travels to Liberty-Raleigh (1-3) for a clash with the Raiders. The opening kickoff is set for 7 pm.
The top 16 teams in each classification at season’s end qualify for the WVSSAC State Football Championship Tournament.
