Scott Zooms Past Chapmanville

The 5th-ranked Scott Skyhawks scored 19 points in the final quarter to put away the visiting 9th-ranked Chapmanville Tigers, 39-19.

Preston Cooper got the Skyhawks (5-0) on the board when he broke free for a 51-yard touchdown run. Cameron Green’s point after kick made it a 7-0 lead with 1:28 left in the first quarter.

Scott added to its lead to 13-0 when Matt Frye connected with Isaiah Bush with 8:20 left in the first half.

Chapmanville (3-2) got on the scoreboard on a 2-yard Brody Dalton run with 1:54 left in the second period. John Ferrell’s kick cut the lead to 13-7.

Scott wasted little time answering as Frye and Bush hooked up again, this time for 75 yards and a 20-7 Skyhawk lead at the half.

The Tigers clawed their way back into the contest on a 17-yard Kohl Farmer touchdown run to make it a 20-13 game with 4:19 remaining in the third quarter.

Scott fired back early in the fourth quarter on a Carson Brinegar 3-yard run to make the score 26-13.

The Tigers stormed back when Dalton found Jacob Topping on a 44-yard scoring strike to make it 26-19 with 10:37 left in the game.

The Skyhawks closed the game out with two short Cooper touchdown runs to push the final margin to 39-19.

Frye had a stellar game for the Skyhawks. The quarterback completed 12-of-22 passes for 314 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also finished with 39 yards on 4 carries.

Cooper led all rushers with 125 yards and 3 touchdowns on 17 attempts. Brinegar had 28 yards and 1 touchdown on 6 carries.

Bush paced the receivers with 6 catches for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jayden Sharps had 77 yards on 3 receptions. Brayden Clark had 2 catches for 49 yards. Brinegar added 1 reception for 3 yards.

For Chapmanville, Dalton connected on 5-of-8 passes for 106 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Dalton also had 11 carries for 62 yards and 1 touchdown.

Farmer had a good day on the ground with 31 carries for 118 yards and 1 touchdown. Robert Cook added 1 carry for 3 yards.

Topping finished with 3 catches for 63 yards and 1 touchdown. Adam Mullins had 43 yards on 2 receptions.

Up next for Scott is a trip to Miner Mountain to take on Mingo Central (1-3). The opening kickoff is set for 7:30 pm on Friday.

Chapmanville will host the Herbert Hoover Huskies (2-2) on Friday at 7 pm.
