The Lawrence County Bulldogs scored three defensive touchdowns and used a balanced running attack to defeat the Magoffin County Hornets, 58-26, on Friday in Salyersville.
The Hornets (2-3) actually held a 391-307 total yardage advantage and doubled Lawrence County (3-1) in total plays and time of possession, but fumbles returned for touchdowns by Dylan Ferguson and Kaden Gillespie, as well as a Pick-Six from Lawson Baisden sparked the Bulldog victory.
Offensively, the Bulldogs had a very balance attack on the ground. Ferguson had 90 yards and 1 touchdown on 7 attempts. Ryan Marcum carried the ball 8 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. Cody Crum added 60 yards and 2 touchdowns on 5 carries. Baisden finished with 47 yards and 1 touchdown on 2 carries. Dalton Runyons had 2 carries for 3 yards.
Talon Pollock completed 3-of-5 passes for 28 yards.
Gillespie was the top Bulldog receiver with 2 receptions for 21 yards. Ferguson finished with 1 catch for 7 yards.
Magoffin County quarterback Aden Barnett gave a strong effort in defeat. The signal caller completed 22-of-40 passes for 207 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. He also had 15 rushing attempts for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Grayson Whitaker added 1 carry for 58 yards and a touchdown. Ian McCarty had 1 attempt for 4 yards. Brock Montgomery at 1 carry for 2 yards.
McCarty led all receivers with 8 receptions for 86 yards. Montgomery had 5 catches for 49 yards. Garrett Jenkins caught 3 passes for 31 yards. Whitaker added 26 yards and 1 touchdown on 3 catches.
Lawerence County will travel to East Carter next Friday. Magoffin County will host the Belfry Pirates.
