The Scott Skyhawks recorded a statement win on the road Friday night by traveling to Point Pleasant and defeat the the home standing Black Knights, 21-14.
The Skyhawks (4-0) and Black Knights (2-2) battled through a scoreless first quarter before Scott quarterback Matt Frye found Brayden Clark for a 58-yard touchdown strike for a 7-0 lead.
Point Pleasant wasted little time knotting the game up at 7-7, but the Skyhawks answered again when Frye connected with Jayden Sharps on a 7-yard touchdown pass. The Black Knights responded with another touchdown to make it a 14-14 score at the half.
Scott added its third touchdown midway through the third quarter when Frye hit Clark for this third touchdown pass of the game. The Skyhawks defense made that score hold. Carson Brinegar had and interception to help Scott hold onto the win.
Frye finished the game with 209 yards on 16-of-24 passing with 3 touchdowns. Preston Cooper came up huge on the ground for the Skyhawks with 107 yards on 20 carries.
The Skyhawks came into the contest ranked 7th in Class AA while Point Pleasant was 10th. This win could help Scott rise up in the WVSSAC rankings when they are released on Tuesday.
Scott returns home next week to battle the Chapmanville Tigers (3-1) in a contest featuring two highly ranked teams. The kickoff is set for 7:30 pm in West Madison.
