Man Heads To Mingo Central For Battle On Miner Mountain

The Man Hillbillies invade Miner Mountain this evening to take on Mingo Central in a clash of two teams with playoff aspirations.

The Hillbillies are ranked 15th in Class A this and have a 2-1 record heading into contest. After dropping its opening contest to county rival Logan, Man has picked up convincing wins over Mount View (39-7) and Westside (41-0).

In last week’s contest Man lit up the scoreboard quickly when Jordan Adams raced to the end zone for the score on the opening kickoff. Jayden Brumfield’s arm also accounted for 155 yards on 8-of-12 passing with 2 touchdowns.

A win over a good Class AA opponent would give a good boost to the Hillbillies in the rankings and help them move up the list to be in better position to secure a playoff spot.

The Miners are ranked 18th in Class AA with a 1-1 record. Mingo Central opened its season by routing Westside (56-6) before losing on the road at powerhouse Point Pleasant (56-13).

Mingo Central will be led by the arm and legs quarterback Chris Ross and Dylan Vance. In the Miners’ win over Westside, Ross was 5-of-7 for 65 yards with 1 passing touchdown. He also had 136 rushing yards with a touchdown. Meanwhile, Vance had 233 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns. He also caught Ross’ touchdown pass.

While Man is a Class A opponent, the Miners should gain some valuable points as the year moves on if they can pick up the win. Man is expected to win several games on its schedule. A win tonight would help Mingo Central possibly creep into the Top 16 of the WVSSAC Class AA rankings.

The kickoff is set for 7:30 pm at James H. “Buck” Harless Stadium. The game will be streamed live on the D&D Sports Network.
