Chapmanville Falls At Winfield

The Chapmanville Tigers fell behind early and couldn’t keep pace, dropping a 47-14 decision at Winfield on Friday.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 2-1 so far on the season, while the home standing Generals improved to 2-1 on the season.

After falling behind 14-0, the Tigers finally got on the board when Brody Dalton connected with Adam Mullins for a 7-yard touch down reception. John Ferrell’s point after try was good to make it a 14-7 game in favor of Winfield. Unfortunately, that is as close as Chapmanville would get.

The Generals built up a 35-7 halftime advantage and increased it 41-7 in the fourth period before Dalton scored on a 1-yard run. Ferrell’s kick made the score, 41-14. Winfield added a late score for the final margin of victory.

Dalton led the Tiger offense, completing 16-of-26 passes for 173 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also had 12 carries for 38 yards and 1 touchdown. Kohl Farmer had 50 yards on 20 carries while also catching 1 pass for 3 yards.

Austin Adkins led all Chapmanville receivers with 7 receptions for 90 yards. Mullins added 76 yards on 7 catches, including 1 touchdown grab.

Defensively, Eli Pridemore had 7 total tackles and 1 interception. Caleb Whitt had 5 total tackles.

Unofficially, the Tigers look to have the points to be ranked 15th in Class AA. The official WVSSAC ratings will be released later. Chapmanville returns home this Friday to take on Nitro. The kickoff is set for 7 pm.
