2A Regional Championship is Set

The semifinals of the 2A Regional Volleyball tournament are in the books. In the first matchup of the night, it was the Belfry Lady Pirates traveling to take on the host school Floyd Central. Belfry came into tonights matchup with a 3-5 record while Floyd Central came in with a perfect 9-0 record on the season. The two teams met just last week with the contest going 4 very competitive sets.

In last nights matchup, Belfry came in red hot defeating the Lady Jags 25-21. With their backs against the wall, the 2021 2A state runner ups came out in the second set to prove they were the team to beat. The Lady Jags won the second set 25-10. In the final set of the match, Floyd Central jumped out to an early lead and never looked back coasting to a 25 -17 victory to win the match.

In the second game of the night, the Pike Central Lady Hawks took on the Lady Hornets of Magoffin County. The Lady Hornets came in and took the first set 25-22. In the second set the Lady Hawks stormed back 25-13. It would all came down to the third and final set. The Lady Hawks would punched their ticket to the championship game winning 25-20.

The Lady Hawks were again led by Emalie Tackett with 11 kills and 16 digs while Alivia Sanders added 43 digs over the three sets.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 1-8 on the season while the win pushes the Lady Hawks record to 4-7 on the season.

The Lady Hawks will square off against the Lady Jags in the 2A championship on Thursday.
