Wednesday Night Volleyball Recap – Lady Blackcats claw the Hornets and The Lady Patriots defeat the Lady Cougars

Last night, the Lady Hornets of Phelps traveled to Prestonsburg to take on the Lady Blackcats in an exciting game. Phelps kept it close but the Lady Blackcats came out on top winning in 3 matches. (25-19, 25-15, 25-20)

For Prestonsburg, Senior Molly Boyd led at the net with 11 kills. She also had 4 digs and 4 serving aces. Senior Jada Slone had 7 kills, 11 digs, and sent over 9 serving aces. Junior Mya Burgess had 6 kills, 5 digs, and 6 serving aces. Sophomore setter Allison Garrett had 20 assists and 4 digs. Sophomore Kennedy Greer added 2 kills, 2 blocks, and 4 digs to the Lady Blackcat win.

For the Lady Hornets, Junior Amelia Casey had 7 kills and 2 blocks. Senior LaRonda Francis had 5 kills and 5 solo blocks. Sophomore Ivy Layne had 4 kills, 8 assists, and 4 digs. Freshman Jaycie Stanley had 4 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Emma Turner had 3 kills and 10 digs and Senior Sarah Sargent added 10 digs.

The Lady Blackcats (3-7) play again tonight, September 16, at home in a district matchup against Betsy Layne. Phelps (7-3) has a home game tonight versus Tug Valley.

In a huge 53rd District matchup, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars traveled to Hindman to take on the Lady Patriots from Knott County Central.  Knott County Central was aggressive out of the gate and won the first set 25-19.  In the second set, the Lady Cougars battled to a 26-24 victory to even the score at 1 set each.  In the final two sets, the Lady Patriots cruised to the win 25-21 and 25-19 to seal the victory.

The Lady Patriots were led by Freshman Faith Pollard who had 6 kills, 6 blocks and 5 digs.  Senior Adison Maggard led the team with 13 assists.  Senior Brook Mason had 29 digs while Freshman Sydney Stidham had 25 for Knott County.

The win brings the Lady Patriots overall record to 9-4 on the season.  Knott County will be back in action Saturday at the Knott County Sportsplex as they take on Jenkins in the Kim King Spike Classic.

The loss drops the Lady Cougars to 3-8 on the season.  The Lady Cougars will also be at the Knott County Sportsplex Saturday as they take on Hazard at 12:30 PM.
