Tuesday Volleyball Update Tigers claw a win over the Jags, Golden Eagles soar past the Wildcats, Warriors defeat the Bobcats, Lions defeat the Musketeers

As seen on the D & D Sports Network, the Bruce Walters Volleyball Game of the Week was played last night as the Lady Jaguars from Floyd Central traveled to Paintsville to take on the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers came out strong in the first match, winning 25-15. Floyd Central made it close in the second and third matches, but Paintsville came out on top, winning 25-20 and 25-23.

For the Lady Tigers, Junior Hailey Little was a beast at the net with 16 kills. Junior Kara Ward had 12 kills and 9 digs. Junior Blair Ratliff had 8 kills and 2 serving aces. Junior setter Kynzi Slone had 35 assists, 8 digs, and sent over 9 serving aces. Seniors Mattie Ratliff and Emma Music added 9 digs each.

For the Lady Jaguars, Sophomore Jadyn Hall led the team with 12 kills and 8 digs. Sophomore Emma Bailey added 5 kills. Senior setter Amelia Wallace had 5 kills and 23 assists. Senior Allyson Stumbo and Junior McKinnely Martin had 4 kills each.

This win moves Paintsville’s record to 16-3. Their next game is September 16 at Martin County. Floyd Central (5-4) plays again on September 20 against Betsy Layne at home.

In 16th region action last night, The Lady Lions of Lewis County played The Lady Musketeers of Greenup County. Lewis county won the game in 3 matches, winning 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.

In the Lewis County win, Junior Sarah Weddington had 10 kills, 12 digs, and 3 serving aces. Senior Sydney O’Keefe had 4 kills, 13 assists, and 11 digs. Junior Abby Malone added 4 kills, 17 digs, and 5 serving aces. Senior Sarah Pence had 2 kills and 5 digs.

For Greenup County, Senior Caroline Adkins led the team with 10 kills and 6 digs. Senior Makenna Munn had 5 kills and 3 digs. Junior Charlie Floyd had 16 assists and Freshman Sadie Chaffins added 4 kills.

The Lady Lions (7-12) play at home, September 16, against Lawrence County. The Lady Musketeers (5-10) play again on September 16, at home, versus Menifee County.

It was an exciting and competitive game last night as the Lady Warriors of East Ridge traveled to Betsy Layne to take on the Lady Bobcats. The first two sets were back and forth, with East Ridge winning both, 27-25 and 29-27. The Lady Bobcats didn’t give up and came back to win the third set, 18-25. East Ridge sealed the win in the fourth set, winning 25-23.

For The Lady Warriors, Freshman Hannah Steffey led with 13 kills and 16 digs. Seniors Hanna Blackburn and Sylvia Ratliff had 12 kills each. Junior Kierstin Coleman added 12 kills and 23 digs. Senior Sarah Woods set up 42 assists and had 16 digs. Sophomore Courtlin Phillips had 37 digs and Sophomore Madelyn Robinson added 5 kills and 6 digs to the win.

For the Lady Bobcats, Sophomore Emily Johnson had 16 kills and 48 digs. Senior Madison Hamilton had 15 kills, 9 solo blocks, and 20 digs. Junior Tia Wesley had 13 kills and 19 digs. Junior Akira Keathly had 11 solo blocks and 6 digs. Junior Lindsey Watkins set up 39 assists and had 25 digs. Freshman Christian Howell had 40 digs. Sophomore Mallory Hall added 41 digs. Junior defensive specialist, Madi Meade, had 3 kills and 124 digs. Betsy Layne had a team total of 326 digs.

This win moves East Ridge to 6-3 on the season. They travel to Prestonsburg to take on The Lady Blackcats on September 16. Betsy Layne (7-3) travels to Johnson Central on September 16.

The Lady Eagles of Johnson Central won big last night against the Lady Wildcats of Shelby Valley. The Lady Wildcats kept it close in the second and third matches but Johnson Central never backed down. JC won the game in three matches, (25-15, 25-20, 25-23).

Sophomores Randi Delong and Mayson Delong lead the way for The Lady Eagles with 11 kills each. Randi also had 13 digs and Mayson had 4 serving aces. Senior Sydney May had 6 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 3 serving aces. Senior Lindsey Cochran had 4 kills and 7 digs. Senior Ava Cochran added 3 kills, 26 assists, 5 digs, and 3 serving aces to the Johnson Central win.

This win moves Johnson Central to 8-3 on the season. They travel to East Ridge on September 16. Shelby Valley (6-6) plays the Lady Panthers of Pikeville on September 16.
