The past week has been a busy one for Matt Burchett of Prestonsburg High School. On Tuesday night at the 57th district tournament, Matt broke the KHSAA all-time career assist record, notching his 121st career assist. Matt broke the old record of 120 and continued to dish out assists which sits at 128 as of the end of the district tournament.
On Wednesday night in the district championship, Matt broke the KHSAA all-time record for assists in a single season with 48. When asked about his accomplishment, Matt stated “First, all the glory goes to God. Second, this is a team accomplishment, somebody has to be on the other end putting them in the net. I’ve been blessed with talented teammates that make me look good.”
The Prestonsburg Blackcats look to make another run at a Regional Title in the upcoming weeks as Burchett will continue to add to his career assist total.
