The defending 1A state champions traveled to Barboursville, KY to take on 4A Knox County Central High School in the Appalachian Wireless Bowl on Friday. Paintsville playing on of the most impressive early season schedule of any team in the D & D Coverage area was coming off a huge victory over Somerset 33-6.
The Tigers looked impressive in their 34-14 victory. The running game continued to lead the way as the Tigers gained 321 yards on the night. The Tigers scored all 5 touchdowns via the ground game. The Tigers ground game was led by Harrison Phelps who gained 205 yards and scored 4 touchdowns on his way to being named the Double Kwik Player of the Week.
In addition to Phelps, Blayden Sexton carried the ball 11 times for 50 yards and 1 touchdown while Austin Allen carried the ball twice for 37 yards. Quarterback AJ James went 5-11 passing and threw for 115 yards. James also ran for 29 yards.
The defensive was once again led by Senior Matthew Davis. Davis had 10 tackles, 3 of which were for loss. Blayden Sexton had 7 tackles and Jonah Porter, Grayson Peters, AJ James all accounted for another 6 tackles each. The defense held Knox Central to a total of 178 yards on the night.
The win brings the Tigers record to 2-2 on the season. The Tigers are currently looking for a game this weekend.
