In the most competitive matchup of the 15th Region All A Girls Soccer Tournament, the Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats squeaked by the Martin County Lady Cardinals to advance to the Regional Championship game on Saturday.
The Lady Blackcats were led in scoring by their Junior sensation Anna Burchett who had who had 1 goal and 1 assist while Freshman Sophie Stephens added the other goal. Chloe Collins dished out 1 assist. The defensive effort for Prestonsburg was the key as goalkeeper Crystal Allen had 6 goal saves.
For Martin County, Sophomore Caitlyn Horn scored the only goal for the Lady Cardinals on a great assist by Kaitlyn Gauze. Goalkeeper Marlie Fletcher kept the Lady Cards close as she had 17 goalkeeper to slow down the aggressive Prestonsburg offense.
The win brings the Lady Blackcats record to 9-0 on the season as they will advance to take on the Paintsville Lady Tigers on Saturday. Next up for Martin County, they will travel to Belfry to take on the Lady Pirates on Saturday.
On Thursday, the East Carter Lady Raiders traveled Russel to take on the Lady Red Devils in a pivotal 16th Region matchup. In a back and forth contest the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie.
The Lady Raiders were led by Sophomore Emersyn Elliot who had 1 goal and 1 assist while Darian Wallace added the other goal. Freshman Ellie Thomas added the final assist on the night. Goalkeeper Brayleigh Boggs played a great game and added 7 saves.
The tie brought the Lady Raiders record to 3-1-2 and the Red Devils move to 8-2-1. Hopefully, these two teams will meet again in the upcoming month to settle the score.
